Eheim Filter info

mp Feb 04, 2007 02:38 PM

Does anyone use Eheim big (model 2222/2224)filters for their aquariums? I was given a 15 yr old slider and a 5 yr old stinkpot in November that live together in a huge 3'L x18"w x 17"h tank and this filter doesn't seem to put out much power, even though it's pretty big. I'm wondering where the best place is to find filter pads, media, and pump equipment since my dog chewed a tiny propellor piece this morning that I left on the floor while cleaning it out. Thanks, Mary

That's a great filter option. Make sure the intake has a screen or something so the turtles can't get suctioned to it. You can find replacement parts through your local fish store, or even on ebay. Eheims are great, not only b/c they'll put out some good flow and filtering ability, but also b/c you can run different media like carbon and filter pad at the same time for maximum cleanliness.

I thought it would be an easy and efficient filter also, but it doesn't seem to put out much power. The turtles are too large to get sucked into the tubing. None of the 6 pet stores I can get to within a half hour sell these filters. So I'm trying to find parts online, but no luck so far. I know where to get more pads and the substrate, but not motor parts. I'll be changing water pretty often with no filter, unless I can find my older smaller ones buried in the closet somewhere.

Yes, pet stores like Petsmart or Petco and such won't have these parts. You need to find an aquarium-specific store--somewhere that only deals with fish. If it's not putting out enough flow, you probably need a new impeller. Yours may have a broken piece. It's a good idea to take it all in with you too because they can help you trouble shoot. You can also find the impeller on www.eheim.com for $30. Good luck!

Thank you so much. I'll try that website and see if I can get the parts. Hopefully that's all it is. M
