mites where are they comming from.

Hi Everyone,
My burms and redtails have mites again.
Where are they comming from? I only feed frozen.
the only thing I can think of is that they are getting it from the aspen bedding. I spay with reptile releaf and when i change the cage i spray proventa mite. does anyone have any advice.

In addition to treating the snake/cage, you also need to treat the area around the cages and the room. Use Provent A Mite and apply around base boards, stands, etc. Mites leave their hosts to lay eggs so you think you have the problem under control and then they flair up again. Provent A Mite is the best stuff on the market and it will work if you use it according to the manufacturers recommendations.

After the initial treatment, wait 2-3 weeks, spray again and do one more follow up 4-6 weeks later. You will not have any more mite problems. Then, in the future, any new animal that comes to you (no matter who it's from) just put in a separate room and treat for mites even if you don't see them.

KAYTEE brand aspen is notorious for having mites - don't use it - if u have any doubts use newspaper
