Really bummed....

well, my dwarf died last night. after finding a new home for the spec, the dwarf totally never ate right and changed his behavior completely. i suppose not having to compete for food changed his eating behavior. i did everything right according to everything i know and have read, and still lost the little guy. i know young dwarfs are prone to not eating, but he was doing really well for a long while. should i get back on the horse and try again? i spent a lot of time and money just last weekend creating a new habitat for him that i planned on moving him into this spring, hate to not use it. ive been keeping reptiles for 20 years, and it still sucks every time i lose one.

Really sorry to hear that. As for getting another one, if you enjoyed this one than absolutely try another. Unfortunelty no matter how hard we try, we all lose animals at some point. It happens to us all. But it shouldn't stop you from doing what you enjoy. By the way, was that a trig or palb?

yea, i very much enjoyed keeping both this guy and the spec. i helped raise gators as a kid at a nature center in florida, and it was really nice working with a crocodilian again. i knew going in they had issues with feeding, and i guess i felt i could overcome that. it was a palpebrosus, and a mean one at that! lol. i loved him though. very smart. im pretty sure ill try again, but perhaps with a more well started individual.

crocodilians are like autistic humans (not making fun honest) they despise change and some cannot recover from it unfortunatly yours was one of the victoms that couldnt .

Sorry to hear about your caiman. It's frustrating when an animal dies even though we tried everything we can to care for them. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your palpebrosus from? I've been thinking of getting one for a while now. I wonder if some sources are better than others as far as getting a healthy animal is concerned.
