Question re: CO2

gmpythons Feb 05, 2007 04:20 PM

Thanks Rflagg for the info and picture that you shared.

We made our CO2 chamber today and we are ready to try it out.
We are wondering if it is safe to feed freshly killed rats right out of the CO2 chamber or is it safer to freeze them and thaw them out as needed?

Thank You

The CO2 won't cause any problems for your reptiles. Assuming they are clean, healthy and parasite free, then go ahead and feed them freshlu killed. I do occasionally when I have the right size live and ready to be fed to one of my snakes. It's easier than digging through the freezer and thawing them out.

To clarify, I mean assuming the rodents are healthy and parasite free, not the reptiles =)

Do you use your CO2 chamber in your house, basement, garage?

I have lots of other pets in my house, including a dog, cats, ferrets and a parrot. I am a little concerned considering the fact that I cant even use my self cleaning oven option due to my bird.

Should I go in my garage to do this or am I just being paranoid?

Thank You

Using CO2 in your house is NOT a problem. You could vent the whole tank in the room, and it shouldn't be a problem.

First off, it's toxic at high concentrations. Second, it's heavier than air- it'll sink down to the floor, so that shouldn't affect your bird. For cats & dogs & such, it should never be able to get concentrated enough to do any harm.

If you're too worried, run a fan or something after, to disperse it around after you use it.

Exactly. It's not an issue. You breathe out CO2. Soda is made with co2 and you drink it. If anything, it will help any plants you may have. I wouldn't stick my face inside a full chamberand inhale deeply, but even if you did you might just get a little lightheaded for a few seconds.
