hmmm...not eating

gothlic768 Feb 05, 2007 10:18 PM

I have an 1.1.0 '06 western hognoses from different clutches the female ate a few days after I took her home a few months ago and the male didn't start eating for me until about a month ago... the male now eats like clockwork but my female hasn't eaten at all and I'm beginning to worry about her.... I've tried live and prekilled...scented (toad, treefrog, different types) and unscented and she just wont eat... i did deli cups, paper bags, by heat, not heat, dark, light

I dont know what else to try... are there any suggestions on what i can do?? how about force feeding (placing it in the mouth and hoping sh will swallow) the tail of a fuzzy to see if i can get her started??

I just went through the same thing with some "True Mexican hogs" I just bought. These wouldn't eat pinkies at all, as a matter of fact, they were afraid of them. I suspected they never ate pinkies at all, and it was confirmed by them devouring pieces of frozen thawed anole.

Try lizard.

Try salmon scenting, canned kind works great.

What you do with Ivory soap is wash the mouse in Ivory to remove the smell of mouse urine, and rinse it well.

"House" geckos is what works well for kingsnakes(in FLorida). Whatever kind of gecko is found where your snake would be found, in the wild. Probably North American natives. It is especially not recommended to feed amphibians which aren't native.

Also, sometimes scenting with "wild" mouse bedding, rather than lab mouse, or trying a different type of small rodent pink, like hamster.

But really I think if anything will work, it's reptile/amphibian/fish scenting. Or actual parts.

Oh, I forgot toad guts scenting. I have a friend that swears by that. You can keep the toad frozen and thaw as needed, then refreeze.

Some people put a little piece of anole shed or gecko shed on the pink's nose.

Good luck...

Hmm... That's a new one to mark down for future troublesome feeders--- beardie shed. Good she ate.
