Hey JF, how was Ricordi Health ?

cycluracornuta Feb 06, 2007 01:21 AM

This iguana did not come to life until we touched it, thinking it was dead. We pulled a bunch of spines out of it's face and gave it some water, but left it behind as our guide seemed to think it was OK ? It had very limited use of it's right front leg and did not move more than a few inches from where we first saw it, I wonder what became of him/her ?

This one literally ran strait into us(must not have seen too well) on it's way to her hole. She appeared relatively normal on the outside, but has an unusual growth in the throat.

John slow down. kidding. I am no vet but they seemed healthy. We did not see that many ricord. I may get some blood results and will post if i do. The cornuta were like pigeons, everywhere and well fed. One interesting not is we trapped a ricord very early in the morning before basking and her inside mouth temp was 81 degrees.

I have checked the body temps of my animals compared to the ambient temp and found it is much higher even without an external source. I assume it's a combination of their cardiovascular system working and the heat from the fermentation of the food in their gut. I make sure my animals are well fed in the cooler months for that reason. Also, that picture that John posted of the Ricords with a growth in the mouth was actually a mass of worms, it totally grossed me out, I wonder if they are cause by the mammals that were introduced.
