Sick pelomedusa

Matt-D Feb 06, 2007 09:09 AM

Hey everyone.. I recently purchased 1.2 subadult Pelomedusa subrufa and one of them is sick, but I can't figure out exactly what is wrong, so I can't do anything to fix it.. It is one of the females, and I'm guessing it is sick from being stressed by the male. I have them separated now and all she will do is sit on the land area with her eyes closed. She has very good weight to her, and if I pick her up she will move her legs around with lots of energy and tried to bite yesterday but all with her eyes closed. She can open her eyes as I have seen her do it. These turtles have been very shy since day one hen I got them so if the male was bothering her, it was hard for me to notice. So far the only measures I have taken is separating her from the male and raising her aquarium and basking temperatures.. Any other advice or does anyone know what I can do to fix her? I'm a student as well so taking the turtle to a vet is pretty well out of the question and I am confident in myself that i can fix this turtle on my own and I have access to veterinary drugs etc.

Thanks.

Matt

Nobody on a computer could possibly know what's wrong with her.
My first thought would be to have her tested for parasites, if that was negative then some blood work would be the next step.
That's going to require a vet.
