What do You Guys Recommend???? RACKS

latin1956 Feb 06, 2007 10:59 AM

I was wondering what you guys would recommend for racks for Adult Ball Pythons. I have been looking and would like to hear the pros and cons of the ones available out in the market.

Thanks in advance

i just got some vision rack systems and they work great and are affordable ... they have a lot of benefits and both the cb-70 and 32 qt sterlight work awesome ..hope that helps ..

We have a bunch of different racks but I always recommend Herp Enclosures, they are very durable and made the best in my opinion. They normally go to some of the shows on the East Coast, I beleive they will be in Hamburg PA, They are worth checking out in person

They look awesome, but I am not that handy building things. I tried and was not happy. Thanks for sharing.

Lowes has the already cut to spec pieces of melamine 36"x16"x3/4"
in the shelving department then all you would have to do is have home depot or Lowes cut 1 4'x8'sheet of melamine per rack to 36"x48" and then you just measure 5.75" space between each board and use sterilite 1960 and your good to go just drill pilot holes and bore out the screw head hole. it really was simple. Or you can just spend $700 for a rack W/O tubs. I DID NOT say that last sentence meanly so please dont take it that way.

I do agree with you though. Decent tubs alone can run you $10-$12 each minimum. Which for even a small collection can run you pretty deep. Thats why I prefer to either build or buy from Reptile Basics. Plus Rich includes shipping in the cost of the racks so you know straight up what you are paying for.

Most of the commercially available rack systems can work quite nicely. Honestly you can also construct racks which work equally well yourself. Having said that for my money the VISION racks are the way to go. When you consider cost, functionality, weight and mobility I have found nothing better. I have 20 vision racks in 3 different sizes that I have been using for the past year (I also have 8 other racks - 3 different manufacturers). In my opinion the Vision racks offer several advantages and I really haven't found a disadantage unless you want to compare cost with a home-made rack (which in my opinion is really as great as you might think when you consider everything).
Vision racks provide better humidity and sheds than open top racks, but not too much as can be the case with some enclosed racks. I have also found that enclosed racks are harder to maintain the temp gradients which I prefer. The cb70 size racks are great for adults. I have had superior results cycling females using them. The hatchling racks are FANTASTIC and far superior to anything I have used in the past. The babies eat better and just seem to do better in them, and the trays are big enough to accomodate them up to 600-700 grams. I have found the guys at vision to be very accomodating and provide great customer service.

I have to agree with this too I have only had my CB-70 rack for just under a month and we had to send the heat cable back and they have been nothing but helpful.

Great racks, well built, good design, easy to assemble and solid. They've also got the best customer service in the industry.

ballfreak Feb 06, 2007 02:24 PM

i bought my rack from animal plastics and before i did i posted the same question and im glad i listend. i love my rack # 1756 and they are very nice people to deal with. hope this helps.

DZBReptiles Feb 06, 2007 03:12 PM

Rich is a great guy to deal with. The racks come preassembled with tubs. The quality is fantastic and the price is hard to beat. We have 5 of their racks (3 sizes) and could not be happier.

I have Freedom Breeder adult, Vision Adult, melamine yearling/hatchling, and Vision Hatchling. I will probably stick with Vision for now, unless something better comes along, but based on price, and how it works once set up, the Vision is hard to beat.

I agree Jon
They are the best made rack when it comes to quality of material, but alot of people dont realize that, thats why i say check them out in person, one look and touch and you can see they stand apart from the rest. Granted all the others work, i have close to 150 racks in our rooms and if I had the money they would all be herp enclosures, I have a bunch of assorted ones including freedom breeders, AP , Richs, and homemade ones, they all work fine but like i said if your shopping for quality herp enclosures crushes alot of the competition ...

Gonna throw this out there. I have Freedom Breeder and VP. Like both but for the $ would go with VP. I found a cheaper way out that works very well. Go to www.containerstore.com and type in 292090 in the Item search block. These storage trays are working VERY well for me and run $20 each. They stack securely on top of each other and I have them stacked 12 high, about the same height as my 11 stacked VP CB70. That means I am housing 12 balls for less than $350. The tub size is a tab bit smaller than the CB70. Only have to supply heat. I bought 23 foot heat cable and ran it under each level. 23 ft will do about 4 tubs the way I ran it. Drill 5 or 6 holes in the very front of the tub and the heat and humidity regulates great. They also have the same box that opens the short way(10015154), I perfer opening the long way.

Here is the link where you can see these tubs right beside my VP rack. This was when I was trying them out and these are stacked 7 high. It is pic at the very bottom.
