starting to get a little worried...

MyKiwiBird Feb 06, 2007 11:19 AM

Ok, so my snake was in blue on sunday but I havent seen him since! I usually see him out and about drinking or something during the evening/night time, but nothing! Is this normal for a snake about to shed? I dont want to disturb him because I know you aren't supposed to mess with them when they are getting ready to shed...

Should I be worried??

Don't worry about it. Even if he was blue on Sunday, it still might take him a few days. With both my snakes, I notice their eyes go milky and they're very pale, and sometimes they don't shed for another week. That's what my corn did last time he shed, about a month ago. I've never had any problems with my corn shedding, it's always one piece but IF you've had humidity problems or anything, try soaking your snake, or let him crawl through a damp washcloth...other than that, try not to handle him too much.

Also, don't feed him. I don't know about anyone else's corns, but mine regurged twice, because I fed him during his shed (I wasn't aware he was going to, but I found out a few days later when I found the skin). Hope this helps.

they will hide during this time until they shed. They may also refuse any food offered.

Nope don't worry.
When they go into the blue they are more vulnerable so they will hide. Especially when their eyes are clouded.
Now, remember...They will get pale and "cloudy" and obviously be ready to shed and then they will clear up.
You will wonder where the shed skin is...but...they actually won't shed for two to four days after they clear back up.

PLEASE believe us when we say things will be okay!!!!, Me, and others like me have seen this happen literally thousands of times!!......you're anticipating WAY TOO MUCH!!!, let the snake do it's thing, it's done this many many many times, again, like we mentioned before, it will take up to a week AFTER!!!the eyes have TOTALLY CLEARED for it to shed....that's the bottom line. You will find after several of these, that it's not a big deal at all......trust us!!!..............................Doug

Don't sweat it. Hiding is pretty much the default, especially for the little dudes who think everything that wanders past is going to eat them. And that goes double when they're blue, so I'm sure he's fine.
