Chicken Turtles, how big do they get?

Moesy Feb 06, 2007 05:16 PM

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum because I don't know if chicken turtles are considered sliders or not. I'm wondering how big do they get? I was at a pet store looking at what turtles they had and I saw a chicken turtle that is already about 4 inches long, I was talking to a guy who worked there and he mentioned that chicken turtles don't get as big as red eard sliders and some other turtles do. How big do they get?

I'm considering getting this one as my first turtle, either that or a RES that is half the size and half the price of of the chicken turtle. What do you suggest for a beginner?

Chicken Turtles are medium-sized turtles with topshell (carapace) length of 5 to 7 inches. These turtles prefer ponds, bogs and ditches. They have a "chicken-wire" pattern of light markings on the topshell and very long, striped necks.

this is just a little info that I found. Just type in chicken turtle , and a load of sites come up. Good luck.
