Indoor Enclosures.....

4everMyMazie Feb 06, 2007 07:11 PM

I just had a couple of ideas/ questions I was looking for input
on as far as indoor enclosures.

Ok, I know some of you are against tanks, and I am too if
they are not set up properly. But if one gets a breeder tank
I see no difference than having a tub (like I mentioned
if set up right, covering the glass etc)

For now, and until they get bigger, I am using the 55 gallon
tank set up I talked about in my first post.
Like I mentioned their line of vision is covered with the
coco fiber (the climbing walls for hermit crabs) etc etc

My question now is for the future when they are bigger.
I have a 4X4 "turtle table" that we built for Mazie.
By most sites, this is suitable for two, but I don't want to
use it as I feel it is too small, and also because it was
Mazie's. I thought I might plant it in her garden.
I know maybe odd, but I am sentimental that way

My first concern is of course what is best for Scooter and hitch
They are pets, which to me means part of the family.
They are kept in the living room, so I would like something that looks nice too.

I am in no way putting down any choice that others make, tubs
are economical and work very well for some. For me I would like
something more attractive, but still a excellent habitat
for my babies. I have been looking on different sites for ideas.

I really like this one found on here

What do you guys think? Any draw backs you can think of?
I would have to make a screen cover to go over the top, just
for added security.

Any good sites you have come across ?
Thanks for your help~Nikki

I remember that!

Aside from possible wood/humidity problems that could probably be dealt with if seal with a safe sealant, I thought it was rather neat. Cleaning and moving something that large would be combersome though, maybe add rollers if you decide on something similar?

At the time I wondered if it would be possible to use several shallow sweaterbox type tubs in the bottom to hold the soil, just incase having constantly damp soil against sealed wood could still cause it to swell or mold. But that would leave small spaces at the rounded corners...
You could probably use some sort of sturdy plastic (corrugated plastic?) attached to the wood on the inside then sealed with calking. Another thing to consider, if you just want it to look nice in the living room you could use a tub but build a sort of case around it, with doors on the front for easy removal.

I couldn't post this picture. They said it was too big. I hope you can see it. It is really beautiful and great to go in a living room. Big too.
