Long time no see.....

-Holly- Feb 06, 2007 07:39 PM

Hi all, I just moved. The last 6 months have pretty much all-around sucked, so best not to ask me how I am. 3 of my 4 monitors died in 2006. At best guess, Mosey died of overheating, Cali of egg impaction, and my dear friend Scooter, the vet put to sleep due to painful cancer. The tristis were 8 and Scooter was 13. My last tristis Rivette got a new home and I wanted to share it. Of course as always this is a work in progress. The dirt is only 8 to 12 inches deep right now, but its built to hold 20. Dirt is heavy and I am worn out. There is a cover for the side light to provide ventilation when needed and ease in changing lightbulbs, but its off today cause its so bloody hot. My cool side is between 70 and 80 degrees and the hotspot varies 150 to 160 degrees. My humidity is high 40’s low 50’s, does that sound right for tristis?? I need to order another giant piece of bark tube to hang across near the top, I know Riv would like that. This lizard likes to watch everyone while playing invisible, and usually is. My guy built the case for me. I told him to use lighter weight materials, but he built it out of 2x4’s and 2/3 inch plywood. It is Verrrrrry heavy. Next time lighter and bigger. It’s fully lined with reinforced plastic fiberboard. He put cute lizard handles on it for me. Unfortunately, I don’t have any plans to get more monitors, but who knows what the unforeseeable future will bring.

My little corner, I'm never on the P.C.

Peeking at me.

Basking.

There is a lizard in there somwhere, just not in view.

My favorite pic of Scooter, my best teacher.

I have read your infrequent, but interesting and helpful posts over the last few years that I've been visiting this forum. Your news is very sad. My sincere condolences for your losses.

Cheers

Hi Holly - you won't know me as I don't post much but I'm a great fan of yours and that fantastic article you wrote on "handling (not taming) monitors". I often refer people to the link to it on this forum when they ask on other forums "how do I tame my monitor?"

Your viv looks lovely and I love the lizard handles on your doors - my hubby is currently building our sav his big viv and is also using the really heavy wood too (takes 2 of us to shift it). We don't seem to have anything called "reinforced plastic fiberboard" in the UK but think we've found something suitable.

I'm sorry to hear of your losses too
