BABIES

j3nnay Feb 07, 2007 03:10 AM

photobucket is unfortunately down for maintainence at the moment or else I'd show you all my very first nose!

It's got SPOTS.

I am so excited I can't sleep. I got home tonight at exactly the right time - the baby had just slit a hole in the egg and hadn't come out yet. It came out as I was watching, and I actually at first thought an egg had exploded - the temperature was higher than it was supposed to be. BUT NOPE. BABIES.

I'M SO EXCITED.

When photobucket comes back I'll post pictures. :D

So far only one has actually opened up the egg and stuck its little nose out. It was back in its egg when I woke up this morning, I guess it was tired

Photobucket is back and WAH LA pictures of my very first snakey nose :D
(I can't stop grinning)

I've turned all the lights on and its wakeup time for my bedroom so mebbe now the snakelings will come out. You might not be able to see in the pictures but I think I can see where the "inflating egg" is starting to pip - just an itty bitty bump. :D

My friends are now totally convinced I'm nuts, by the way.

Congrats!

On a side note, is it wrong that I am probably more happy when people hatch out their first snakes than their first child?

Haha!

right before they hatch, I believe, that might be why your temps were up. Good to know for future hatchings too.

Great Job!

Once I saw the baby pokin out that's what I figured had happened. Took a minute or two though, lol.

I'm not sure what kind of incubation setup you have, mine is a small one.

If your not using a proportional regulator like Herpstat to control the heat, you wil get those fluctuations in temps.

With the proportional type controller it compensates for subtle changes and you wont have to worry.

This assumes you are using a static setting one like on the havobator...its not very accurate.

j3nnay Feb 07, 2007 10:58 AM

I was unable to get a thermostat early on in the incubation due to financial constraints, and by the time I could have afforded one, it was already halfway through and it seemed to me like it'd be a moot point by that time.
I used two thermometers on each side of the clutch, with the probes imbedded in the vermaculite, to tell me the temperature, and would adjust things as they were needed.

It's the best I could do under the circumstances, and thankfully appeared to work.

I'm not saying like that, I got 3 kids - believe me moneys tight here too! But, if you can get a proportional for next year or whenever, its DEFINATELY worth it. It saves you all that fussin' around and worrying about frying the eggs.

I agree, it's definately going to be my first purchase of the season next year.

:D

I am so relieved I got my baby stuff set up the day before yesterday, lol. :D

jenny, Thats awesome, this is my second season and I can't wait for the laying to begin here. Your little guy may just sit there a day or so to absorb his yoke. Like Tosha said, just give him some time.

j3nnay Feb 07, 2007 09:58 PM

Yeah I went back through my breeding sites/snake book and saw that it'll be a day or three before he comes out of his egg. So, I've got something to look forward to this weekend

I can see parts of his body in the egg though and I'm surprised - his markings don't look a whole lot like either mom or dad. But then, he's got a spotty nose anyway and neither parent has that either!

:D I can't wait to see the other two!
