New Peach Throat

JoeEdmark Feb 07, 2007 03:20 AM

I am planning on obtaining a new Peach Throat Monitor from the fine people at ProExotics.com. I was going to keep him or her in their adult size in a enclosure that would be six feet long by three feet wide by five feet tall. It would have a large water basin alonf with plenty of climbing branches and a hidespot. What do you think?

The size sounds good. The bigger the cage the more choices you can provide, the more behaviors you will see. I would give it as many hiding places as possible, mine seem to prefer hallow logs. Babies can dehydrate very quickly, so no screen tops. Proexotics has some availible? Peachies are great lizards. Good luck. Tyler

that is a great looking Peachie : )

we don't have any Peachies at this time, haven't seen babies since perhaps summer.

for the 5 or 6 Peachie babies i see each year, i must have 20 strongly interested customers : )

I started mine off in a 4X3X7 enclosure. I rarely saw it for months. After a lot of patients it has come around and does not run when I open the door. It will even run to the door when it is hungry.

I started another peachie off in a much smaller enclosure and after a few months it still hides anytime it sees me.

Some of them are very cool monitors. Others are like keeping an empty cage. Good luck with yours.

Joe
I have kept and bred Jobiensis in smaller enclosures than you described.
As long as your temps and humdity are in the correct range sounds great!

Joe
I forgot to ad in my last post that you should also have a deep moist substrate!
Good Luck.

I am starting to like these cages, are you going to build elevating tops?
This could prove useful especially if you make communication doors to them?

Steeve
I am currently using them as is, as you well know this hobby is ever changing.
I will soon be turning the 8'er to sit paralle to the back wall.
My enclosures will then be in a U formation with the 8'er flanked on both ends by the 6'ers.
I want to build all three up forming one U shaped enclosure, but build a wall between each 6'er and the 8'er.
3 enclosures in one, or one large enclosure.
Stay tuned my friend.

Sounds good, looking forward to seeing your updated set-up!

In any case I am sure it will blow away my crappie caging, mine are so dry sometimes my monitors shed in tiny flakes.;(

If you ever wonder why the blue color is fading let me know.
