I'm looking to breed Albino Boas...

LoneGreyWolf20 Feb 07, 2007 10:02 AM

I currently own a 100% het for Albino Kahl line male Boa. I may be getting an Albino female in the next couple months. Kahl line as well.

What I am curious about is what type of babies can I expect? Will any of them be under 100% het for albino?

I am still learning about genetics.

albino x het albino = statistically you should get half albinos and the other half will be 100% het albino.

If you want to figure out the outcome of a litter and you know how the genetics work in the parents (ie. simple recessive, dominant or co-dominant) www.geneticswizard.com is a great site.

You will get...

50% 100% Het. Albinos
50% Albinos

Hope that helps.

Thanks to all three of you for your quick responses. It's how I thought and wanted to make sure.

I just talked with my wife about what I want to do and she has given me the ok to look for an albino female. I may even be interested in a male albino as I know sometimes breeders off deals that if you buy this snake I will throw in a 100% het of a different sex along with it.

The only other thing that I need to figure out is NY state law in regards to selling animals. I know that a law was either passed or considered last year that stated you needed a dealer permit id you sold or offered to sell more then 25 animals or something along those lines. I need to get verification if that included reptiles as generally, it does not. It would be stupid to include reptiles since many of them can lay more eggs than 25 or have a litter of baby snakes that total more then 25.

BTW, Greg that is a gorgeous Albino!

I got her from PK in 04 when the pic was taken she is hat stripe as well. If you are interested in producing albinos don’t forget that with Kahl strain there are many avenues to go with minimal investment.

For instance why not invest in a dbl het sunglow female instead of an albino female and produce sunglows as well as albinos? You would be spending the same if not less amount of money.

Or maybe spend a little more and get something like a arabesque het albino female or nice looking coral albino female. And produce some top notch looking albinos.

If you bred him to an anery. female het albino you could produce albino boas het snow and then you would have a snow project going.

The possibilities are endless!

Yep I know, but I would rather start off simple. Once we start getting out of the realm of breeding just for albinos, my head starts to hurt. LoL! Not really, but I think you know what I mean.

I will keep your suggestion out there however.
