I'm curious to know how many of you bought possible hets or 67% hets that either proved out or didn't. Let's hear about it.

Depending on the type of poss het, either 50% or 66% of them proved out. If you purchase poss hets from a reputable breeder, there's no "luck" or "guesswork" involved, just statistics.

I wanted to work with albino boas but I think they were about $7500 back then even the het albinos were like $1500 at least. I saw an ad for possible het albino boas. So I called the guy and he said I have 6 poss het albino females left. I said will you give me a deal if I buy all of them? He said yes so I picked up these poss. het albino females for 1/8th the price of a normal het albino. In 1997-or 1998 I think I purchased a male albino from Jeremy Stone. It was my largest snake purchase to date. I just hoped it would pay off. Out of the 6 poss. het albino females 1 died and I sold 2 cause I couldnt house that many adult boas at the time. That left me with three. In 2000 I bred the first poss. het albino female with the albino male. And waited with anticipation! Then low and behold one morning I woke up and went to her cage.... ALBINOS!!!!!! I ran around doing the happy dance. Then grabbed the video camera. So in 2001 I bred another of the females and waited patiently and one morning woke up and went to the cage and WOW! More albinos 2 out 0f 2 those are good odds! The third female I never did breed until this year! Finally. Thats alot of waiting. She was bred with an albino male, a hypo harlequin het albino, and an arabesque het albino lol. So I have no idea what will come out. But I am waiting with anticipation. I cant only wonder what happened to the other females I sold I wonder if they proved out or not? Any way those females and that albino male were the BEST INVESTMENT I ever made in my entire life. I believe I have made over 50 times the cost of the albino male alone in the last 6 years. Any how. I LOVE ALBINO BOAS!!!!

I haven't had any luck with my BCI possible hets yet, although I haven't bred very many. It is amazing how bad the waiting can get to you with possibles though, isn't it?
I did have exceptional luck with rosy boas last year though. In 2003 I aquired a group of 5 possible hets for snow rosies consisting of a 1.0 anery 50% het for albino/snow, 1.1 albino 66% het for anery/snow and 0.2 66% possible hets. Not only did every one of them prove out but I got way better odds than I had ever hoped for. Out of the 3 litters from this group of between 3-5 babies each, I got 4 snow rosies. On top of that I bred the anery to a older female albino and got some more albinos het snow and 100% DH's. I couldn't have asked for better success with that group. Hopefully it will transfer into some of my other projects.

I bought a Dh sunglow male that was 50% possible het anery, That prove out to be a Triple het. This year I will hopefully prove out some possible DH Snow females. My fingers are crossed. Marshall Mauro
