Veileds teeth...

WEEBEASTIES Feb 07, 2007 05:19 PM

My friends male veiled cham is about 9 months old now and he noticed that its teeth are getting dark. Not the gums just the teeth. Any ideas? is this normal or something to do with maturity or the fact its eating more plants now? Just never heard of this before and thought someone out there may know. Thanks.

is the soil covered in the vivarium? maybe hes substituting a lack of minerals with soil eating which is staining his teeth?

When you say "dark" what do you mean? I've seen chams with reddish or brownish teeth. If the teeth are turning black and there is any sign of swelling, redness, or sores on the gums it may have an infection in the gum or jaw and roots of the teeth are dying.

no sign of infection just a general darkening of the teeth. When you say you've seen veileds with brown teeth were they older? this guy is just about a year old so maybe they change a little with maturity. Thanks for the help though.

Honestly I don't remember a trend by age. One year is still young. It might be a change related to maturity and once the cham reaches a certain age it doesn't change much after that. Just don't know. Maybe look at lots of photos of veileds that show teeth?
