Advice on Wild Insects

Boost Feb 07, 2007 05:45 PM

Ok starting I'm hoping sometime this weekend, I'll be catching wild insects with a bug catcher. The catcher will be kept at place where the owners don't spray for bugs and it's far enough out of town to cut down on any other contaminants.

Any advice could you give me regarding the keeping, supplementing of, and feeding of the insects to Bonnie, Clyde, and Bugsy??

You could get a few gaint empty jam jars W-mart sells or some other plastic container. For food if you dont have a cricket feed, a healthy cereal ground up and plain jello cubes for water.

I am always weary about feeding wild bug to mine. Parasites can be a problem with wild bugs.

Yes be weary of parasites, that is good that you are in an area that is pesticide free. Also be sure that none of the insects are poisonous, i.e. lubber grasshoppers bad, bad, bad. A lot of the ofher grasshoppers can make very good food for your collareds and I have used the rock mimic grasshoppers in the past with no trouble. They will eat mostly bran and wheat germ, but will also take chick mesh. and the water can be given with a sponge or the gel. And remember to dust them with calcium and vitamins alternating. And above all have fun with the hobby!!!!!
