Need a home

Sharon C May 21, 2003 07:22 AM

I have two RES - 2 1/2 years old - one male and one female -
I saved them from abuse at birth and have gotten them this far.
Now I love them but cannot give them a bigger home. They are in a 30 gal tank - the male is small at about 3" but the female is getting too big for the tank - she is about 1 1/2 times the size of the male - she swims freely but can stand on her toes and peak her head out of the water.

I live upstate NY and am unable to put them in a pond outside due to the winter months. Anyone have an idea what I can with them? I dont think pet shops are the answer - I have seen the conditions they keep turtles at even the best shops!
Thanks for any suggestions. Sharon

Contact Turtlehomes. They can place your animals for you in an appropriate home. Get in touch with them and they can give you all the details.

Do you know if it is okay to separate two turts that have been together since birth - especially a male and a female?

Thanks much? Sharon C

You can separate them. It may be a different experience for them than what they are used to but they will be okay. If you do send them to turtlehomes most likely they will go into situations with folks who have ponds or large enclosures and so they will have a good home and more than likely be in a multiple turtle environment anyway.

is it that you cannot afford a bigger home or that you just do not have enough room? For a cheap big home, you could use a rubbermade tub, that is what my turtl lives in, I got her a tub that holds 40 gallons, and has clear sides so it is just like a reagular tak but more durable and light weight for about $7.
