Basking Temps

stevereecy Feb 07, 2007 11:19 PM

Finally got my terrarium (Vivarium?) finished and I'll post pictures tomorrow. I was measuring temperatures in the cage, and I found it to be 120 degree (f) at the highest rock under the spotlight, and 75 degrees at the cool end.

Most published info I found says basking temps of 100 to 110, but it seems like a minimum. Anyone actually measure the hottest basking temp in their set-up and come up with similar numbers? Am I running too hot? Hottest spot is about 10 inches from a 75 watt bulb. Guess I could switch to a 60 watt.

Steve, basking temps should be 100 -105 and yes 110 is acceptable, hot summer afternoons mine will go to 110, but the collareds usually retreat under a rock or someplace cooler for an afternoon nap, and return later.
The rest of your tank should be in the high 80's to 90 range. Collareds like it warm :0) Then at bedtime most of us turn off all lights until morning.

AHHHH did I hear pics, Great!

I agree with Eve follow those peramiters, I think that's how you spell it, and you'll have wonderful warm collareds.
