hello everyone. just bought my first snake last week. i have everything set up for her. my main concern is getting her used to being handled. shes fairly young still. she's only tried to strike me once and I have yet to hold her in the week that i've had her. suggestions?

Handle often when little & most will be very tame soon. Your snake has had time to settle in. When you are sure that it is eating with no trouble (and keeping it down), do some gentle handling a few times a week. Make sure that you give your new snakes a couple of days with no handling after each meal. Try to handle long enough for it to calm down for you. This will happen sooner than you think, as even little ones are often only jumpy (and bitey) when you first pick them up. Don't let the strikes scare you. Enjoy & welcome! Duffy

Everything that the person above said. Corns rarely like to sit still and like to be everywhere. Mine is only 7 or 8 months old and he calmed down a lot by being handled only once a week or so. He used to be really fast and try and make a run for it every time I took him out but after a month or 2 he really calmed down and tolerates being handled quite well.

my first corn i purchased very young (4-6 months? i can't remember) and surprisingly i didn't handle him much (busy schedule). even with handling less than once a week... maybe once every 2 weeks... he is now a year and a half and is as calm as can be when i handle him. my newest addition i've had for a month now and handles very well. corns are very docile but yes as stated previously, they like to move around. the striking should stop... mine has never struck at me, well, unless i taunt it with food! lol.

good luck and welcome! though im new myself... well old, but a lurker... active recently. shrug. post pics!
