mike17l Feb 08, 2007 11:11 AM

Does anybody believe that these could possibly be 100% River Road?

Back when I lived in Gainesville, Fl and Ben's shop was in Ocala I would frequent it often. Basically he is large Petshop supplier, and got his animals from the S. Fl importers and trades off anybody. I doubt those are RR, and he would never check out locality. I am sure he just took the word of whoever he got them from.

Not a chance. If there where a RR animal in there in the past it was so far back, any influence has long past.

Since I have to work on Saturday, I will be there Sunday at some point. Not sure exactly what time. I have to go to Godley TX and remove a very large Western Diamondback from a ranch that is terrorizing and biting the horses, so I have other business up that direction. I would say around noon time on Sunday actually, maybe a little sooner.

I might show up for an hour or so...
Probably see you there.

If that is the same snake (I didn't go back and look), the URL site says Loma Alta. That should put the possible RR locality to rest. If it is a different animal, and not from Loma Alta, it still does not look anything like a RR animal.

Cheers, hugh

ssshane Feb 13, 2007 07:47 PM

You are right. I was thinking Loma Alta the entire time. I sold my RR GBKs. I should have kept quiet. Sorry about that.

troy h Feb 15, 2007 07:21 PM

I caught a RR blairs in '97, its pattern was more irregular and its "gray" was browner. It also had 16 bands.

I also bought a pair of RR blairs from Ric Blair in '98, one had a darker "typical" RR gray, alternates, and very split nuchal. The other had no alternates and a split nuchal. Both snakes had 18 bands.

I wouldn't say that that snake is outside of the realms of RR's potential, but I also wouldn't bet on it being pure. Personally, if I can't at least trace the snake back to some one who I consider a reputable breeder of locale animals, I don't care what it looks like, I wouldn't consider it locale. By preference, I'd like to trace it back to its wc ancestors.

I agree Troy.

I think I was there the night you caught that RR Blair's. Didn't you also catch a milk the same night and Dave Long caught an albino suboc?

troy h Feb 17, 2007 08:51 AM

yep, that was a good night. We also found a lepidus. I have to wonder if I hadn't stopped to take a leak, if I wouldn't have caught the albino suboc, too - Dave was still in the road with the snake in his hands when we rounded the bend.
