Showtime with the kids!

nodaksnakelover Feb 08, 2007 11:41 AM

Every year the church I am part of has me come in and show the kids the snakes and talk a bit about them and allow them to touch the more mellow ones. It's a Wed night program they do for all the kids in town willing to come. So about a hundred kids saw snakes that night. A couple weeks back. Well hands down, the stars of the show were my seven foot male gray rat and my now seven foot Northern Pine, Big Girl.

Plenty of pictures were taken, but I thought it best not to show pics of any kids but my very own two year old daughter with Big Girl. Funny how as a baby this snake had total attitude, hissing, and striking! But now she's a total ham. Calm and let's kids do darn near anything with her. And yes, there were adults close at hand should a snake act up in any way. A great time was had by all and several adults came to realize that yes, snakes can be so tame and be great pets.

And the adults couldn't help but be amazed how my two year old loved the snakes like some people love puppies and kittens. She's truly a daddy's girl.

Great pictures!! I love seeing kids with an interest in reptiles. I went to my daughter's second grade class and did a presentation with our IJ blue tongue skink and our big Argentine Blk/Wht Tegu a couple of weeks ago. It's great seeing their faces when you bring out a 3 1/2 ft lizard for them to touch!! Good work!!

Very cute pictures, your daughter is precious and it seems so natural for her to be holding the snake.
I am lucky all 4 of my children love reptiles.

Great pictures! It's neat to see such a big snake filling the lap of that little girl.... and she has no fear! I think it's great that you show your snakes to the kids and adults there, helps show that snakes aren't as bad as some people think.
