See for yourself.

Here's a 7-foot Mexican Pine that I used to own. Florida Pines (aka Southerns) have a longer record length than Northerns. Black Pines run a little smaller, but can still reach 6-feet.

Didn't know Black Pines topped out around the same size as most Gophers (6'). Might have to put one of those on my wish list. I thought they all pretty much grew to become 7-8' monsters, and space is an issue w/ my small collection (8 snakes).

I looked In Roger Conant's field guide and it states the length of black pines to be 48-64 inches, with a record of 76 inches. My adults average five feet. They are very cool snakes!

It's funny, Black Pines start out really big and fat, but they don't seem to reach the sizes of the other pits. My female is about five foot and the male is about four-and-a-half. They were first-time parents this summer. The female is about the tamest and most easy-going snake I think I have ever seen (except for my rubber boas), She spent the last three years in the local kindergarten where she was handled constantly by five-year-olds. She has never hissed, rattled her tail or attempted to bite in her entire life.
