What type of water dish???

TSUSnakeGuy Feb 09, 2007 06:22 PM

I am having a problem with my snakes in their shoe box racks. I have not yet figured out how to get my snakes to stop knocking over their water dish. I am using small tupperware bowls. But I am curious what everyone else uses. I would appreciate any help to keep my snakes dry.

When using shoeboxes I almost 100% of the time use foam disposable bowls.

You can take one, cut the bottom off, making a ring. Set that upside down in the tub, then place another bowl ontop of that,(so it sits fairly snug, but allows it to sit on the bottom of the tub) it usually makes it nearly impossible for them to tip it over. Plus its nice and easy and cheap, instead of cleaning out the dish regularly, you can just toss it away and replace it.

Ceramic or glass bowls of various sizes purchased from thrift stores. You can usually get matching sets and they are usually pretty cheap (~$.50/ea.).

I also use the glazed ceramic plant dishes purchased at Home Depot or Lowes that you put a potted plant on to catch the excess water. These are shallow, come in various diameters, and relatively cheap (about $1/ea).

i use a ceramic water bowl. i have never had one tip over and they are easy to clean. if you like disposables, a deli cup will fit inside.

The 12oz disposable water bowls from Superior enterpise They work great and I don't have any trouble with tipping. It's basically a deli cup with a hole cut in the lid. Simple yet effective product.

I remember seeing somewhere that one of the big breeders used little 2 oz plastic deli cups siliconed into the bottom of the shoebox. They then filled a second cup with water & put it into the first cup. Sounds like a good idea to me, except, if you do that, you can't use paper towels or newspaper as bedding. You'd be stuck with a loose bedding.
Saw another one where someone did the same thing, but used 2" PVC pipe siliconed in instead of a second cup. If you did that, you could put a piece of tape across the bottom of the pipe to hold in your dish. The wider base might help prevent tipping.
