What type of water bowl???

TSUSnakeGuy Feb 09, 2007 06:22 PM

I am having a problem with my snakes in their shoe box racks. I have not yet figured out how to get my snakes to stop knocking over their water dish. I am using small tupperware bowls. But I am curious what everyone else uses. I would appreciate any help to keep my snakes dry.

something heavy will be harder to tip. i use a fancy looking rock formation water bowl but something as simple as a ceramic dish should do. just make sure it is large enough for them to soak.

Use dog water bowls.
The ones with the holes in the sides work great.
The base is wider then the top so they don't tip over and the openings allow the snakes to use the water bowls as hides.
The come in a variety of sizes to fit your needs.

for the hatchlings and yearlings i use "nibble bowls" from petsmart. they are lil plastic bowls for mice or something i guess.... $.99 cent for the small and $1.99 for the medium. i think the large is $3.99 and theres just enough room under each bowl that the snakes can hide under. i also use dog water bowls with holes on each side and my older corns LOVE those. i just make sure the water bowl is large enough to crawl under AND soak in. eventhough i dont have any soakers. hehehe

Ceramic, beats the tar outa lightweight stuff. <G> If I use lightweight little 'cups' I use double sided sticky tape, but the ceramic ones are by far the best. I buy cat food bowls at the Dollar Store for my snakes.

You ever see a snake use a ceramic water bowl as a hide?

Yeah I do have to say it I could theoretically, on a small enough bowl, see it being tipped but only if the bowl size was far to small for the snake.

My Brazillian Rainbow boa's spend prolly 80% of the time coiled underneath the water bowl(plastic dogfood bowl) in each of their tanks. It's a dark, tightly confined, temp regulated location that they can't seem to get enough of.

If you get a plastic dogfood bowl with outward angled sides and access holes for which the bowl area is large enough for the snake to submerge and soak then the under area should be large enough for the snake to hide in also. And the weight of the water along with the angled sides prevents any tipping or sloshing of water.

I have found some heavy glass ashtrays at the dollar store that work great, and I have never had one knocked over yet.
