Question....

slw33 Aug 11, 2003 12:31 AM

My beardie is a little over a year old (year in July). He really appears to be going into brumation. He likes to just hide under his half log, digging until he's got a comfy place and a comfy pillow for his head, seems to sleep most of the time, and not a lot of interest in eating. His fecal and everything vet-wise were fine. Nothing in his cage (heating, lighting) has changed. My question is this: could he be going into brumation now? Without a change in time of daylight or season? He doesn't appear to be sick, and if I get him out from under his log, he acts fine otherwise, and looks like himself to me.

I guess my big question is: should I be worried?

You dont have to worry he is going through brumation. Bearded dragons go through brumation when they are at least a year old during the winter. so no worries.

A few of ours are starting to brumate too. Silly dragons. I would get a small mail scale and start keeping a record of his weight (if you haven't already). This is one good indicator as to his overall health. Make sure he isn't dropping a lot of weight, keep offering food and water, and pray for his own little psychological spring!
