Food Dishes

Is there any magic to getting Leos to eat from a food dish? I've tried different types - commercial ones that look like rocks, regular white china, glass, but my Leos won't eat from them. If I take the superworms & put them on the floor of the tank, they go right over & grab them. Yes, the worms ARE moving in the dish, I've even tried using some rocks to let them walk right up to the dish, but no luck.

Anything that's worked for people, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks,

Howie

I've always had luck with the little round ceramic dishes. Some have been hesitant, and I've tipped the dish on its side to show the ones slow on the uptake. The other thing I've done is skip 1 feeding and then place their little front gecko feet on the dish. Fortunately they seem to see the movement and stalk the worms eventually, but sometimes they're just not hungry enough to waste the energy climbing the dish, so shallow seems like a good training method, then I moved to a dish about .5" higer so the worms actually stay in.

Good Luck!

Yea, Good luck! I have the mealworm dish with the lip on it from zoo med, but they still don't seem to eat out of it either, i feed crix and just dump them in the tanks and the mealies i feed like treats every so many days and only about 2-3 each. I also mix in waxworms everynow and again!
Good luck!!

My leos did the same thing. You won't see them eat it. Try this...leave a certain number of worms in there like 15 or whatever. Then look the next day and see how many are left. I have some geckos that now run up the the dish whenever I open the cage and look inside it. I have others that I never see eat, but I know they do because they are all gone after a few days. I also leave a little layer of meal worm feed and a small slice of carrot for the worms to stay "loaded" and alive until the geckos find them.
