Names, Lethargy and Hydration

stevereecy Feb 10, 2007 11:51 AM

Well, I have names for them now. Mr. & Mrs. Boomer and Zoey Bugmunchen.

Yeah..."Boomer" isn't original, but helps me remember their nickname. "Zoey" because they came from a zoo (supposedly).

They are doing so well now...especially the (small) female. I don't know whether it was acclimation or hydration as Boost suggested. What is cool is that despite their peppyness, they still let me pick them up without scattering. Amazing, really.

I can tell you. All of you folks that maintain internet sites on these guys should provide information about hydration. I say that because when I was looking around at information, the only hydration source I ran across said that they would get their water entirely from the food they eat. Based on how much they drank from an eyedropper last night, I know that isn't true.

There definitely needs to be a good pet book about these guys. They are awesome and I think a well kept secret in the reptile hobby.

I would deserve that smack. For doubting you on sexing them. Its obvious to me now. Glad your website is out there. Otherwise I would never have known about them.

Gotta cool picture of them basking together. I'll try and post it on Monday. Also, my wife was holding them in her hands yesterday and hydrated one with an eyedropper. She agrees I need one more female. She wants to build a custom cabinet now, and house our very old bearded dragon in it for now, and someday get another color morph.

I look at them and find them breath taking, point to all this chatter, is I'm more enthusiatic about them now than years ago when I started.

Good choices on the names, but a method to get them to drink that I've found works quite well is getting a basin of water and either taking a cup with a pin hole put into it to let the water drop into the basin or a simple ice cube to drip. The key is the sound of water that will trigger their drinking behavior. But if you already know this then that is great. Anyways beautiful lizards!!!
