I'd say on average, black rats get longer.
However, the longest specimens of both subspecies can reach over 7'.
I once came upon a TX ratsnake crossing the road that was as big around as my forarm and was around 6'. That was not even in the East TX region where the whoppers are.

The record black rat is longer than the record texas rat. Both will get bigger than a corn. My normal black rat is the biggest snake in my collection at this time. My leucistic texas rat is 2nd. The two tend to be close enough, on average, that I think you should decide which you prefer in terms of looks, get a healthy young speciman, and feed it well. If you're looking for leucistic, I really don't feel that the current extra cost for going with black rat is worth the money. Also, don't worry about the reputation that texas rats have in terms of attitude...They calm down just fine. If possible, go to a show or dealer where you can look at and handle individual specimans and pick one that YOU like. Finally, whichever you choose you will have a GREAT snake. They are both awesome! Also you should check any state regulations that might make your decision for you.

well thanks for the responses, ill be getting leucy texas's then, since the size is similiar. here in ny their probaly is a law with owning blackrats just because they are indigenous to the state but texas rats should be fine. i just dont want bugeyed ones i would prefer normal appearing leucy's
