Carmichael question...

I am very curious about your cage set up that you described for your Gaboon with the 3-4” of soil, humis, leaves etc. It sounds like the cage would weigh a ton. Could you provide any more info on the cage? It seems you get quite a thermal gradient for a 5 by 3 cage. What is the average temp in the room the cage is in? Is it air conditioned? I wish you were close by- I’d come check out this set up. Do you have a functioning naturalistic set up with plants, etc? If you want to post something on the Cage and Habitat Design forum a bunch of people who might not check out the Venomous forum might really appreciate it! Maybe you could post a picture that shows the cage? I really enjoyed the detail you shared, made me want to know more.
Thanks.

Well right after I posted, I did a search for some of the products you mentioned and I came across an article you wrote on Indigo snake husbandry that pretty much answered all my questions. With pictures too! Now I’m paranoid about Crypto virus... Very informative article. As Emily Litella use to say on Saturday Night Live... “Nevermind!”

I haven't seen that article in a while but I can say that since I keep the gaboon exhibit in a large, wooden enclosure, I can weigh it down quite a bit.

Aaaargh....I was going to go this Christmas while in town visiting relatives but due to a sickness in the family I had to abort the trip.

This has been something like 3 years I've been trying to get up there and haven't yet....I must be "snake bit"

I've been fortunate to visit Rob's facilty twice in the last 2 years. It helps that my Dad lives 45 minutes from there! LOL

Well worth driving several hours to see this display. Not to mention Rob is an energetic & knowledge guy to talk with. These days I spend more time looking at the cage construction, filter systems, and such that the animals are ALMOST secondary. It's not easy to display herps to be visible to the public while keeping the animal happy and stress free.
