Too many worms or what

crazy4turtles Feb 10, 2007 09:25 PM

Hi everyone.Had a couple questions.Since I live in colorado, and where I am we have had a snow storm every week for the past 7 weeks,I have my turtles inside. I am thinking of revamping their outdoor enclosure and wondered if solid centerblocks would be okay to boarder it? Also I had some diet questions. I was told to feed worms in moderation, but my guys LOVE them. It is their favorite food! In addition, they get crickets, zoo menu, salad mixtures of romaine, red leaf, brocoli, cauliflower, carrots, green pepper which they love, tomatoes etc.I limit their fruit to twice a week because of sugars. Kiwi is their favorite. I cant seem to bring myself to feed the pinkie mice or anything else that has eyeballs!Do worms have eyeballs? Just kidding.Anyway what else should I be feeding to prevent vit A problems? I give them calcium powder as well.Any input appreciated.

Hey crickets have eyeballs!
Aside from nightcrawlers & smaller earthworms, mine (ornates) like waxworms, mealworms, grubs, silkworms, lobster roaches, small hissing roaches, roly polys superworms, they had some phoenix worms & one of them ate them but the rest just wouldn't. One of mine will even eat thawed out bloodworms.
I like them to have as much variety as I can find.. they do eat some plant foods but not nearly as much as other box species will.
Just try different things as often as you can. There's 2 good reasons for doing that, one is variety is good for them, the other reason is the more different things you can find for them to eat, the less finicky they'll be later on.

Not exactly. They do have photoreceptive cells that allow them to detect light.
