Does anyone know if this species of mite is dangerous to snakes? A friend of mine has some guinea pigs that have been exposed and I want to know if I can go there without worrying. He said that they are host specific but I wanted to get other opinions.

mammal mites do not transfer over to snakes. You don't have to worry if prey items or furry pets have mites and if they'll transfer to your snakes - they don't. I think the blood cells are different in reptiles vs. mammals.

You might be able to get them though

that they can transfer to humans! Ick! He assured me that this was rare though. His vet told him that unless they finished off the one guinea pig that has been infected they probably wouldn't even transfer to his other guinea pig and that his rabbit is completely safe. Even so, knowing how inept some vets can be I wanted to see what my fellow snake people thought. Thanks for the reply.
