Breeding questions

Bunke10 Feb 11, 2007 06:27 PM

I was reading a few articles on breeding carpets (jungles mostly)and had a few questions. One was about how some breeders keep their breeding pairs together year round. What time of year would you seperate the female so she can lay her eggs, and if you are letting her natrually incubate her own eggs, when does she go back to the cage with the male? I have also heard that the do not really need to be cooled? Are they really that easy to breed or are my sources unreliabe? I currently have 2.2 yearlings from Lazik, Hamper, Bird, and Leshock stock and was just wondering about some possibilities for their future! Thanks in advice!

I was reading a few articles on breeding carpets (jungles mostly)and had a few questions. One was about how some breeders keep their breeding pairs together year round. What time of year would you seperate the female so she can lay her eggs,

>>>I don't keep mine together year round, but assuming those that do would seperate after a prelay shed.

and if you are letting her natrually incubate her own eggs, when does she go back to the cage with the male?

>>>After they hatch? lol

I have also heard that the do not really need to be cooled?

>>>Probably not, however I still cycle mine.

Are they really that easy to breed or are my sources unreliabe?

>>>Healthy, acclimated animals that are maintained well are easy to breed.

I currently have 2.2 yearlings from Lazik, Hamper, Bird, and Leshock stock and was just wondering about some possibilities for their future!

>Good luck!

Thanks in advice!

Thanks for all the info!! So the female wouldn't need anytime between the eggs hatching and going back in with the male?? Also, does letting the females incubate their own eqqs make a big difference in the hatch rate? Thank you so much for all your help and patience! I am just learning about breeding snakes! Horses have been a breeze for me, but reptiles seem to be another story!

Oh, I get it now. I wouldn't pair her again until the next breeding season, but I guess if you were keeping them together year round, then you could go ahead and put her back in there with the male.

Really a better question for someone who keeps their animals together year round.
