feeding pinkies

justin7 Feb 11, 2007 11:49 PM

Hi everyone I'm new here. I had a quick question about feeding my adult leo's pinkies. I've heard different things like they can only have 1 pinky every month, and then I've heard you can feed them once every other week. I was wondering what some opinions are. Thanks, Justin

feeding pinks is really an antiquated practice. Leos don't eat them in the wild, and it's hard for them to digest such a huge, fatty meal. If you feed them too frequently, you run the risk of your gecko developing fatty liver disease, which can dramatically shorten its life.

The best diet for your leo is made up of properly gutloaded, dusted feeder insects like superworms, discoid roaches, crickets, and soft-bodied worms like butterworms or phoenix worms.

I have to agree! It's only best to feed leos pinkies if they are severally underweight or right before breeding, some tend to stop eating and a pinky is high in fat and will help store more fat while pregnant. With that said, they are high in fat and are not to be fed weekly or monthly, you will end up with a real obeast leo with a very short life span. So it's best to just feed one or so every couple of months if you insist!
