I haven't posted Monday pictures here in a while, so I thought I would show everyone my crowning acheivement...to date. Here are pictures I took tonight of my three holdbacks from my first litter. I have three females now who are being bred with my one adult male. I can't wait to see what I will get...again, another test of patience.
Here are some brief descriptions of each:
Riley- (pictured on the left in the first two photos, and also climbing over her siblings in the last) is almost a lavendar color, nothing I see very often, I did find one similar to her selling for $500 on Fauna classifieds as a "false anery" I wonder what dolt paid for that snake. She is tiny compared to her siblings because she is a picky eater. Oddly enough, she HATES being watched and notices if I am still looking in on her while she eats. I have to put her back on her shelf and just leave her with a knocked-out mouse.
Isis- (Pictured on the right in the first photo and the middle in the last two photos) deep red color with white sides that get whiter at night, this one is the second healthiest eater, she is a whopping 160 g. She has a bit of an attitude but has never refused a meal. Looks most like her mother, Copper, who has the same deep red.
Zeek- (Pictured on the right in the last two photos) my personal favorite, Zeek is a high-contrast orange and black male who I am going to keep and see if I can find him a decent female to match (anyone willing to part with theirs in the future please email me).
All three were born on 6-18-06 and have made my life an extreme joy ever since (when my parents aren't complaining that I am addicted to snakes like some people are to drugs). I kept these three out of the seven that were born to Copper and Noah last year, one of the other hold-backs, was born without eyes, and unfortunately died a month after she was born.
Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you I am not only obsessed over these babies but also especially proud of them, as well as their siblings that I sold. I think selling the other three surviving babies was one of the hardest things I have had to do. To my great fortune I sold one to a great kid in the area and I still get updates and the chance to see Baby #7, now known as Epicrates.
With the help of Dave's Breeding 101, as well as all the advice from others on this forum, I managed to successfully attain my childhood dream of being a complete snake freak. Fortunately, whenever my mom yells at me for having too many snakes I can tell her that there are people worse than me with 200 snakes in one room (a goal I am aiming for constantly) as well as remind her of the fact that she started it! Her buying me a garter snake at the tender age of 5 is still my best excuse!
So thanks to all of you who (whether you know it or not) have helped my with all of my snake issues.
Good luck in your own ventures!
