Jonasgn Aug 11, 2003 03:48 AM

Hello everyone, i`m new on this forum.
I´m getting a yellow anaconda soon and want to know how big they get.
How long will a female get ave/max? and what can she weigh?
And the same question for a male.
Thanks a lot Jonas.

` In my experience females range between 10 and 14 feet. They could weigh 100 pounds. That would be the rare exception, I think. My largest female is 4 years old, a little over 11 feet, and more than 50 pounds. Males seem to vary, quite a bit. My largest male is 6 years old, 9 feet, 30 pounds. The rest are smaller.
` I hope you've had experience with other large Boids. Anacondas, being aquatic, are just unbelievably strong.
` Since you said you haven't got the snake yet, let me give you some very important advice. The snake you start out with, makes ALL the difference. If you can pick your baby out of a litter and pick one which is calm, and not too defensive, and be sure it is healthy, you're lucky. That's how I got mine. If you can't do that, you're taking a chance on getting a traumatized snake, which could grow up into a real problem. I got my original Yellow Anacondas from a couple of shipments from NERD, to an exotic pet store. The snakes they shipped to us were healthy, and calm, and still dragging their yolk sacs. Those babies have turned into unbelievably calm and tame adults. NERD even refused to ship to us, until they felt the weather was right. If I had to buy an Anaconda sight-unseen, I know nobody else I would trust. There are just too many people shipping, and pet stores selling, BIG problems. Good Luck!
