Aquiring a buisness loan .

dougle Feb 12, 2007 11:17 AM

Has anyone been successful at going to a banking insitution and sucessfully aquired a buisness loan to start their ball python buisness. If you have would you be willing to share the experience of doing so this would be greatly appreciated because I am now going from a avid keeper of these beatiful snakes to breeding them which is only the natural next step for a ball python fanatic like myself. I am writing a buisness plan out right now and am purchasing my first rack from vision products , please advise , thank you .

Sorry but you should not go and get a loan to start a breeding program, first of all, no bank will loan you coins specificaly to purchase snakes (Not part of their evaluation, assessment and criteria process)You could however apply for a personnal loan...

My reasoning is that you will put to much pressure on yourself to breed the snakes for a return on investment to pay back the loan, what if something happens!

You should start slow and small, invest in a project YOU will enjoy, sell or trade off the resulting offspring and build your collection over from that original pair or trio over subseuqnt years. There is no cutting corners in this hobby. Trust me, start slow and build from there, you will enjoy it that much more, don't jeoperdize your finantial portfolio buying snake breeding stock.

Just my opinion, good luck

Thank you for your advice, I am in this hobby for the pure joy I get from working with these beatiful snakes , I am already slowly in the process of building up my collection of these great animals. I would just like to do it on a larger scale due to the fact that I love my hobby so much. I have actually already talked to a few finicial insitutions and I actually received some positive feed back from a few. I am presently in works of constructing a buisness plan so that I can submit it to the bankers that I have received positive feedback from. I am a postal worker and a proud disabled veteran who served in the Navy for ten years, I have always wanted to be a entrepnuer I once owned my own janitorial franchise and that experience was a positive one and it made me realize that as a american and human being that you can achieve everthing that you want with hard work.I want to once again own my own buisness and I thought about it long and hard and I figured that I might as well do something that I have a true love and passion for and that is nature the enviorment and caring for , keeping, and breeding these beatiful snakes, and why not do it on the buisness level also. The reality is that I would do this for free with know problem as a matter fact I already am , but since I am to the point of having a small nice collection and will have off spring next year I want turn my hobby into a buisness, but I want quit my day job. Aagain thanks for the advice.

You mention love and passion which I beleive dictates your future success .

Good for you if a bank will loan you capital to expand your operation! Please share with us what kind of business plan you built to convince them!

Good luck

Anyone have any luck acquiring a Personal Loan at a good rate?

I know the housing market is dropping so it seems like you could get a good rate...

I did , but I a have been a member of this bank for about 16 years, so it was not a problem , but be advised personal loans normally always carry a higher interest rate unless you have been with that particular banking insitution for a while , or you belong to a credit union , good luck.
