Pics of your tanks-need ideas and a ?

Terrible_one Feb 12, 2007 12:59 PM

Hey I am in need of some tank ideas. Im looking to get a nice one probably spend around $150 for it. I want one that opens from the front along with a screen top. But I also want to see how everyone has theirs laid out. Heres my idea of a tank set-up let me know if it sounds all good. Im just going to get the one tank so will a baby corn be ok in like a 30 gal tank? Ill make sure to provide it with enough hiding spots. Anyway

UTH on one side. Turn off at night and turn on Incadssent bulb. I want to do this becuase I like viewing my snake at night.

Brown paper towls as substrate.

Therometers on the bottom of tank (75-80 cool side...80-85 warm side) Can drop a little at night.

So yeah help me out here

IMO, 30 gallons is too much room for a young corn. They can stress out if they're in a tank that large, especially if they don't have ample places to hide. If you can let the snake 'grow out' in a tub for a year or so, it would be more comfortable in a tank that size.

And as far as the UTH/lighting situation, I wouldn't recommend turning the UTH completely off at night. If you set it up on a dimmer/thermostat you can control the heat output without turning it completely off every night. Most pad-type UTH's can take several hours to heat up completely, so you'd also be having to worry about keeping the tank adequately heated while it warms up.

on at night. You could maybe get a red lightbulb to see him. But having a light on him for too long can stress him out.

I would suggest getting more of a span with your cool/warm side. Your temps should not connect: "75-80(cool)/80-85(warm)". I would maybe make it 73-78 cool, and 82-85 warm.

Hopefully you will be putting a water bowl in there, also. Other than that, sounds good. Make sure that the top locks on VERY securely, or you will have a beautiful empty tank. They can squeeze out of gaps that are smaller than you would imagine.

This is the tank I have in my bedroom. To the left, just cut off, is a bit of bark that makes a reasonably specious hideaway for her.
At the same end as the light I have a small heat pad under the tank as it gets cold here (Northern Ireland). I usually turn it off when the weather gets warm enough for the light to do the heating.
As you can see it doesn't open along the front but thought I'd share.

Sorry if this comes out huge, I'm still learning!
