This is horrible!

snakecharmed Aug 11, 2003 04:34 AM

Today someone forwarded me an e-mail wanting me to sign a potition to help stop a new practice that is going on. At first, I thought it was one of those stupid chain letters, until I checked out the website! Some "people" (monsters) are placing kittens in a glass container, placing a feeding tube and a tube for feces and the kittens are forced to live their lives in these jars. Here is the site if anyone is interested in checking it out www.bonsaikitten.com Do you guys think that this is just a site to get a rise out of people or do you think it's for real? I can't imagine anyone being so heartless and thinking that this is acceptable, but then again, there ar some really cruel people in this world. I am going to contact the ASPCA and PETA and see what can be done, I would think that this form of abuse would be illegal, if not, than the laws are more screwed up than I thought! I know that this post has nothing to do with beardies, but I'm sure that most of you beardie lovers are like me and love all animals great and small.I wish there were stronger laws to protect animals! Perhaps we could try to see it as a satire on a pet trade that exploits animals as objects.
Anyhow, I thought that's how they make Chihuahuas.. am I wrong?
Hopefully this will also be a lesson on how easy it is to fake something on the internet.

Practices like this really exist in some asian countries. They serve as decorations, but I think the site you read was fake.

Personally I've never heard of such practices in Asian countries, and I would be very interested in some documentation on that. I believe most animals would die rather quickly under circumstances such as those described on the Bonsai Kittens web-page. Although extreme animal cruelty is common in some Asian countries, it's usually part of a bizarre food-preparation ritual (skinning animals alive, boiling them alive and so on).

As far as I remember, the Bonsai Kitten joke began as a project involving some students from an art-college or something. Don't remember the details, but as it's been said there already, this is an old joke.

No, chihuahuas are not made in glass jars. Like any other toy breed, they were created through centuries of selective breeding. Though why anybody wanted to make a yapping rat is beyond me.

Hehehehehe Yapping rat.... LOL

Guess what my hubby bought me when I had my Shepherd put to sleep ?!?!? A Yapping rat!!!

I take offense to that. I have a chihuahua. It is a yapping rats. A yorkshire terrier there is a yappy rat.

Granted, a fairly twisted joke, but it is indeed a joke site.

If you notice on the site none of the cats are altered in shape. They probably just took a cat squished him into a container took a pic and let him out. The one picture that the cat is supposed to have changed form is "forbidden" That is the giveaway right there. Plus the terminology they use in the site is not professional and is worded to make u upset. At least u can feel better now.

I'm so glad to know that this is just a joke, a very sick one, but at least I know now that it's fake. This had me so upset! I know there are alot of sick people out there and I wouldn't have put it past someone to do something so horrible, that is why I believed it to be true! Thanks again to everyone for assuring me that it's just a joke. Christy
