? about 17 month old w hognose..........

rj1204 Feb 12, 2007 02:56 PM

I have a 17 month old hognose that has been nothing but great up until a month ago. He always ate well and I never had any problems with him.

My family and I moved into a temporary house (ours is almost built) and the room my w/hognose and nelson milk are in is a little cooler. The temps were in the lower 70's during the day and upper 60's at night. My w/hognose will not eat now. I leave him in his feeding box for hours at a time but nothing.

Can anyone tell me what may be the reason for this? Am I confusing him with the cooler temps? Thanks for any help and/or advise.

The cool temps probably triggered his insticts to hibernate. When my snakes do this, I start offering small meals every 2 -3 weeks until they decide they're ready to start eating again. If it's been a couple of weeks since he last ate, you could always turn off the heat, put the tank somewhere cool (50s) and try warming him up in a month or so too.
