Ackie Identification

Varanids_Rock Feb 12, 2007 08:08 PM

I am really sorry to have to ask this question, as I am sure that it has been asked numerous times before. But, are these truly red ackies? Due to what seems to be a lack of markings on the heads, I believe they look like yellows. Anyway, the price is nice, and I figured I would ask here before turning them down.

Thanks,
Ryan

Been a while but I think my Ackie formed his markings as he grew, at least the baby pics i have don't show them well. But besides lacking the head marking they do look more like reds.

Nope, not Reds. They may be those reddish Mt. Isa's that were called German reds at one time. Somehow the German part has fallen away.

Not only are the head markings different, but real reds have black and white faces. Also the tail markings are different as well. As are the spines on the tail.

These days I find it rare that ackies are labelled right on the classifieds. There is one small consistancy, when yellows are called Reds, normally they still have the lower price of the yellows. Cheers

Thanks to both of you. Due to the nice pricing, I really hoped they were true reds. But I seriously had doubts, especially since a subadult holdback of his "reds" was clearly a yellow. Now I really wish I had jumped on a pair of adult reds (they very clearly looked red to me) that was being sold in the past for $450...

Oh well, I got my yellows for free (and unless I find some really nicely priced reds, I may get some more), so I guess I can't really complain.

Thanks,
Ryan
