I am thinking about getting a Med. Tortoise (Marginata) and live in Texas. I am new to tortoises though and one thing that I worry about is hibernation.
Most winters here are fairly mild. Some winter days are even hot! And two or three days out of the year we actually get night temperatures down to freezing.
Ideally I would have liked to keep my tortoise outdoors year-round but I am worried about hibernation.
How have other tortoise keepers in similar climate handled this? Did the tortoises do okay?
I compared average temps between here and Greece and it seemed pretty close although our high temps are a couple of degrees higher and so are out low temps.
