day two of corncob bedding lol

izora Feb 12, 2007 11:08 PM

he's got so many little tunnels dug around, he's even piled some up and hidden himself in it. I couldnt see him when I got home from work tonight, it was so funny, I tapped on the screen a minute, which is usually how I say hi to him when I walk in and can't pick him up just then, he popped his head out of his little mountain hehehe So cute to watch him learning something new.

Just wondering if there are benefits to using corncob, vs using aspen or some other substrate.

a friend of mine uses it for his snakes and he's got a rather large collection. I asked him the same thing and he said that when they go, it collects in this little puff like cat litter and he scoops it out, runs his hand through it to check for wetness or any other problems and then adds a bit more. He does a partial substrate change for his snakes twice a month and a total substrate change every two months. He's been doing this for years and hasn't had any problems. He also said he doesn't feed inside the enclosure. He hasn't ever had them ingest the corncob bedding and didn't want to find out what happened if they had. So far, Frosty is enjoying the new texture and has tunneled alot, and as you know, he's built his little mount saint frosty and poked his little head out of it. I also have noticed it is really easy to spot clean it, I can do my check once at night and once before I go to work. It's easier to reach in, scoop out a bit of corncob litter than it is to move everything out and replace his newspaper or paper towels. I'll post some pics of him and his mountain tonight or tomorrow.
