One really easy way to tell when a gecko is stressed is if it's "fired up." I.e., it's colors get much darker and more contrasted. I've noticed my geckos generally just fire up if they're angry with me like when I accidentally spray them while misting their tank (which isn't bad for them, they just don't like being hit with water ;P) and when I handle them. Long term stress can be characterized by lack of eating, and in extreme cases, stress can cause the gecko to drop its tail.

hey, thats what my chameleon does too..soo should i just try to go off of what i already know about my chameleon getting stressed and what causes stress??they seem like they are the same when it comes to stress, but obviously the gecko wouldn't be as easily stressed..my chameleon is acually more of a friendly one,and it seems like the gecko is too,but hes soo young its hard to tell how hes gonna turn out..hes in like a 2-5 gallon tank, maybe even less right now..well if anyone has any other comments about what could stress a cresty out,i'd really like to know..thanks for the reply, appreciate it

You *could*, in theory, use what you know about your chameleon as general guidelines for stress in cresteds. From what I know about chams, and I don't know much lol, they tend to stress extremely easily over stuff such as humidity, temp, etc. Cresteds are a little more hardy so while they will stress about those things, it takes just a little more effort to get them to the stressed out point.

Having had both chams & now cresties, I would agree that crestie's stress less easily than chams. This (I think) is probably due to the fact that crestie's are nocturnal animals, and in general, there's less going on in homes at night. Chams are also more nervous creatures (IMO). My cresties are okay with the dogs running around all day & being in their space, but again, I think it's b/c they are sleeping in secure locations when the dogs are up & about. My chams would have been too stressed to be out in the same room with the dogs.
If you are worried about your crestie getting too stressed, try to keep him in a quieter room. Also keep the temps and humidity in the acceptable ranges. Cresties are prety easy herps to keep.
