hpimichael02 Feb 13, 2007 08:06 AM

hey guys,

i have seen some of the outdoor enclsoures have been made, and i currently have 3 5FtdX6ftWX4FtH cage with an nesting extension, and my cyclura have pretty much out grown those at 3.5-4.5 yrs old and will be making One huge enclsoure being 16FT D X 24Ft W X 5ft H split into 3 sections of 16DX8ftWX5ftH 1- for my rhino pair 1- for my blue caymen hybrids and one for just what ever... now heres where i run into some probs. that being that cyclura like to dig and i dont want them to dig out, how did you guys prevent this- an obivious way is to place a mesh down at the bottom of the enclosure but then you'd have to dig all that land up for at least 2 foot digging room... how did you guys do this ? and did you use any speaical tools?

BTW are my measurements good for a pair/Trio?(16DX8ftWX5ftH)

any help would be great

thank
Mike

I made a wall of concrete bricks, layed chain link fence, and then filled it in with sand. Here are some pics.

I would say try and make the enclosure as big as you have room for/can afford. I would try to have a minimum of 100sq ft per animal, so 15x20 and at least tall enough for you to walk around in. Can you imagine trying move furniture 15 feet bend over! Better make sure it's light. I have plans for this summer but have all the room I could ever need, so am planning something around 30x30 for my trio. Just think about the height, I would hate to have to bend over while maintaining it. Unless of course your shorter than 5 feet.

This cage was at a park in the DR. It had subadult rhino iguanas in it.

The bigger the better. This one is 20x50. Bottom was rolled out PVC coated wire from home Depo. Nests were dug out and lined with wire inserts.
