Skunk Gecko

shuggie728 Feb 13, 2007 03:14 PM

I recieved an adult skunk gecko as a rescue and was told that it wasn't eating and recently was seperated from it's mate.
He has a red heat bulb that keeps the temp around 85 or so, a very naturalistic enclosure, and a good mister.
He drinks like crazy but refuses food.I've been soaking him for about 15 minutes once daily in warm water to try to get some digestion flowing.
I've offered crickets, mealworms, waxworms, and oxborn critical care syringe feeding formula... any other suggestions???

I want to try some gerber baby food but which ones should I try?
Mango, papaya? etc?
Should i mix in bee pollen granulates in with the food??

Any information would be a help.
Thanks

Hello;
Mine like a nectar mixture as much as they like to eat insects. I usually use banana mixed with honey and a little water mixed right in the jar top for the baby food. Vitamins can also be administered in the nectar mixture.
The other thing that is very important for Skunk Geckos is to be sure the animal has lots of hiding places. I have both logs and huge pots of pothos streaming over the sides for the geckos to hide behind. After they become familiar with their surroundings they will come out shortly after the food is offered to eat. I usually place the jar lid right next to the foliage so they can reach out and feed without completely exposing themselves. Once they settle in this is unnecessary. The main thing to remember about this species is that they like their privacy.
I hope this info helps. Good Luck!!!
