sand boas in cage together

shuggie728 Feb 13, 2007 03:21 PM

i recently recieved a rescue of two adult kenyan sand boas that are together in a 10 gallon tank.
both are healthier but they have only been together for a week prior to me getting them.
Is it safe for them to be together? besides quarentine and stress related reasons. Will they fight and try eat each other like kingsnakes do??

Any help would be great.
Thanks

I keep mine together and they have no problem at all. I would check them out once and while to see how they behave with each other

I keep mine together in trios of 1 male 2 females and have never had a problem with them. I also feed them seperatly in feeding boxes.

Id keep then together , they breed well in colinies anyways, just watch them for awhile and then check them often to make sure everythings fine. I feed mine in deli cups or bags to avoid eating to much substrate and this keeps any stupid feeding errors from happening when you have multiple snakes in a tank. Like a smaller boa acedently being eaten by a cagemate. alot of people say singles always but with kenyans havinga colonie is my favorite part.

lots of everything im not gonna list it

How large are these adults? A ten galloon seems too small for them to both comfortably thermoregulate. I keep my adult pair of kenyans in a 30 gallon tank, and a lone female in a 20 long. Even my male would be cramped in a ten, and he's a little guy (but breeds my females like a champ).

Stress may very well be a factor in your scenario. Rubber storage boxes can be purchased inexpensively that make terrific sand boa enclosures. If the tub is tall enough you won't even need a lid.

Good luck!

Just make sure you close the lids and snap them tight if you have the rubbermaid containers. I as well use them and have a missing Kenyan as of yesterday! GEEZE, that's all i can say haha. He'sa baby to so i'm going to have a great time trying to find him. Anyways, yes it is ok for them to be together just like everyone else has said, i to have mine housed together. I have male and female a single female and a male and female together. Good luck!

hey...
just thought you'd like a take from the other side...
i have a pair of doublehetforsnow siblings that i produced
a few years ago. kept them separate until one day at feeding
time i found the male's tub needed to be cleaned. i put him in with his sister, who at that time was about 2" bigger than he.
washed out his shoebox, went in to get him and find her doing
the "littlebrosheadinhertmouth" trick ! fortunately he was still alive ! i pryed her off him (not a whole lotta fun )and he was (and still is ) none the worst for it. who knows what would've happened had i not showed up. the smell of rodents was in the
air at the time, and may have precipitated a feeding response on her part, but i havn't done that again. ain't gotta hit me in the head twice ! of course, breeding season is another thing...
good luck, peace , ck
