has anyone built a custom uro cage?

evercraig190 Feb 13, 2007 03:24 PM

i am going to be purchasing a uromastyx within the next couple of months and i am debating on either using a 50gal tank as the enclosure or do i want to build a custom cage....i have all of the tools i need to build a cage, so the issue is only what can be a better habitat, the tank or a wooden enclosure? also what about a screened enclosure..do yall think that would work?

Thanks for your time....

In my opinion a fifty gallon tank is a bit too small for a uromastyx, but it would be okay for a younger lizard. With their high heat requirements screen caging is too cool and would allow too much air movement. One of the best custom desert cages I have ever seen was a four foot long chuckwalla cage with a trapezoidal shaped floor plan. One of the things I liked most about this cage was the use of large ceramic tiles on the back wall to hold heat.
