i am going to be purchasing a uromastyx within the next couple of months and i am debating on either using a 50gal tank as the enclosure or do i want to build a custom cage....i have all of the tools i need to build a cage, so the issue is only what can be a better habitat, the tank or a wooden enclosure? also what about a screened enclosure..do yall think that would work?

An aquarium can get you started but, if you've got the whereabouts to custom build, go that route. A fish tank can't compete with a properly made wooden or melamine enclosure.
Absolutely no to a screened enclosure.
If you have a table saw, your only limit is your creativity & your Uros will do so much better than in fish tanks. If you wish, e-mail me for particulars.

I built a 36" X 18" X 11.5" cage from MDF. I have 2 10 gal screen tops laying widthwide to hold the UVB lamp, and an open spot on the right side where my heat lamp is attached.

I was using a 150 watt, but noticed last night that after 10 hours on a warm day, the basking spot reaches upwards of 140-155, so I switched it to a 75 watt. The warm end is 85.

Should I put a permanent lid on, or is 11.5" enough for him not to get out of for a while?
